Winning weekend for Anderson!

Unicorn star Gary Anderson enjoyed a fantastic Players Championship weekend in Wigan.

In some of the hottest conditions seen on the tour for some time, Anderson won PC 14 as he beat Ian White in an all-Unicorn Final....24 hours earlier the Scot lost in the final of PC 13 to an inspired Steve Beaton.

Gary's third Pro Tour title of the year and 20th in all saw him beat White 6-1 on Sunday with a controlled dominant performance.

Anderson led 2-0 and 3-1. It could have been 4-0 at that stage as White finally got a leg on the board. The two-times World champ then nailed a superb 118 finish on D19 and sealed the win on 'tops'.

"That's a very satisfying weekend," he said. "The conditions were tough both days. It was baking hot in the hall so it was as much about keeping focused."

"It's nice to show the young 'uns that us old boys have still got what it takes!"

Anderson defeated Mickey Mansell (6-5), Harry Robinson (6-4), Unicorn stablemate Kyle Anderson 6-2 and he then beat Dirk van Duijvenbode by the same score.

In the quarter-finals, he was too strong for Richard North winning 6-1, before he got the better of Rob Cross 6-4 in a high quality semi-final.

White's run to another final saw him beat Simon Stevenson, Warwick Scheffer, Gerwyn Price and then Jeffrey de Zwaan. White was 2-5 down to De Zwaan before producing a stunning fight back. He then beat Robert Thornton 6-3 in the semi-finals.

On Saturday, Beaton rolled back the years to get the better of Anderson 6-3 in the final. His first Pro Tour title for nearly four years. Gary didn't do a lot wrong but Beaton was motoring all day and it was his destiny. It's a win which will clinch his place at yet another World Matchplay next month.

Anderson beat three fellow Team Unicorn stars on Saturday....Adam Hunt 6-2, Michael Smith 6-2 in the last 16 and Kim Huybrechts 6-0 in the quarter-finals.

The Belgian reached the last 16 on Sunday, while James Wade lost in the last 32 to Richard North in PC 14.

But this was another fine effort from Gary Anderson....a job well done!
