Top performers in June at the Academy have been Jordan Edmonds, Connor Bestford and Harry Lawton in the junior boys with Amy Thorne, Chloe Baird and Kelly Paine showing excellent improvement in the girls. At senior level, Sean White leads the 29’s competition with a best of 508 followed by Arron Monk 377, Dominic Ware 322 and Billy Day 271. Fastest 701 leg: Sean White 23 darts, the 501 5 leg average is from Arron Monk 25.99 and the top check out is 99 by Richard Burgess. 180’s have come from Adam Major, Arron Monk and Sean White all 2 a-piece. Group B singles leaders are Karl Brooks and James Daley both on 12 wins from 15 ahead of Gavin Howard on 11 and in Group C, Luke Goddard leads on 7 from 9 from Ray Lockington on 6. Top lady performances have come from Charlotte Burgess 26 dart 701 and a 6 dart 201 including a 160 finish. Christine and Sam Pike tie the June singles with 7 wins each followed by Mel Oakley on 6.

12th July is the annual Academy fund raising marathon day at the Entertainer which received the best possible launch with a £100 pledge from Dolling Joinery & Interiors. With around £8000 needed to fund activities this great news comes off the back of last week’s £700 cheque from Test Valley Borough Councils Housing and Community Service grant. The event toe’s the oche at 10am with the youngsters participating over 12 hours and anyone wishing to sponsor an individual or the Academy in general are welcome to come along on the day or pledge support by contacting Glen Dawkins on 01264 395246.
Last week in the junior’s the 3 R’s Regan Rhys and Ryan won the ‘Darts-word Challenge’ followed closely by the Frubes (Amanda, Chloe and Ollie) and The Eeyores (Kelly, Luke and Molly).

The Academy completed their fund raising day last Saturday and a result look set to boost their funds by around £1000 after a marathon 12 hour stint. Sean White travelled to Nottingham this week to become the latest member of Unicorn the world’s ultimate darts team. The 17 year old becomes the second Academy player to achieve this distinction following Jamie Kelling’s induction last year.
John Taylor Memorial Classic Ranking Competition
Paul Cook and Mick Savvery netted a hard earned £200 winners pot on Saturday 5th by claiming the 2008 John Taylor Memorial sponsored by EPC with Us. There have been some gruelling days at the Entertainer in recent times but this year’s event has to have been the toughest so far after a high class field battled through a most demanding format. The Swindon duo overcame a determined Sussex pairing of Mark Davis and Steve ‘Sid’ Perkins 7-4 in an excellent final which included 51 ton plus scores.
Perkins, who had been in fine form all day, had earlier came close to the perfect 9 darter but had to settle for a superb 11 instead. The winners accounted for Hampshire’s Colin Philpott and Kevin Woodward in the semis and Gary Scratchley and Roy Lowe in a last leg decider in the board 4 final. The south coast pairing also had to overcome a Hampshire pair in Kevin Ede and Danny Smith to reach the final having earlier been pushed hard by Steve Goddard and Paul Keen to win Board 1. Other quarter finalists were Southampton’s Barry Meakin and Micky Tee, Board 3, and Dan Butler and Tony Clark (2) the exciting young talents from Swindon.

This year’s day of darting disciplines is sponsored by Andy Nosko of Ability Associates and is set for Saturday 2nd August at the Entertainer. The competition in memory of one of Andover’s original darting heroes, consists of singles combined with traditional pub games such as Shanghai, Round the board on doubles, bullseyes and 25’s and Halve-It. Entry fees are £5 per player with a closing date of
30th July.
