Irina just keeps going on

Posted by John Armstrong at 19:00 on 13th April 2008 in UniBlog

2008 so far is proving an even better year for Irina Armstrong than 2007.

In BDO / WDF ranking tournaments this year she has entered 5, been in the finals of 3 and won 2 of them. The other two she finished 9th and 5th. On top of that she has won two of the ladies pairs titles, one with her Russian partner Anastasia Dobromyslova ( Isle of Man ) and the other with Swedens Carina Ekberg ( Dutch Open ).

It`s not just the winning of matches though, it`s the manner in which she is doing it. In Isle of Man she won her last 16 match with legs of 15, 11, and 17 darts against Francis Hoenselaar. In the German Gold Cup her average for the semi final and the final was not far from 30 per dart, and yesterday she lost a very close final in the English Open against Trina Gulliver with a 26.95 average.

She isn`t just saving herself for the ranking tournaments either, to add to this years achievements she was the best lady at the Dutch Pentathlon setting a new total points record, a new record for halve it, a new record for Shanghai and a new record for round the board in doubles, she followed that with a win in the Zercom Open which was televised on local TV. She has this year beaten all the best dutch ladies, with wins against Francis Hoenselaar, Karin Krappen, Carla Molema and Rilana Erades.

Here's hoping for more success next week at the German Open.
