For each of the last nine years Trina Gulliver has established a formidable record by finishing number 1 in the WDF world rankings. This year there is a possibility that she will not make it ten.
Unicorn's very own Russian lady, Irina Armstrong, currently sits at the top with Trina in second place, but there are still points to play for. With two majors to come before the year end, both carrying 180 points, it`s not going to be an easy task for Irina to hang onto this position especially as she was strangely overlooked for an invitation to one of them.
Both Trina and Francisca Hoenselaar need to win both of these majors to realistically overtake Irina, and Irina must not win more than a few points more. We are sure, though, that Trina will not relinquish her title without a fight and feel certain she will come out all darts blazing at the first of the majors, the Winmau Masters, during the first weekend of December.
Irina's success this year has been largely down to consistency, having played in no less than 8 WDF ranked finals, winning 4 and losing 4.... and she doesn`t want to have to rely on Trina not winning enough points, she wants to win points herself so her position is unassailable, so we hope the consistency remains until at least the second week of December.
Nearly three years has passed since Irina stood in 135th place in the rankings, and then Unicorn showed faith in her and her ability by offering her a place in the Global Team, she has proven, so far, it was a good decision and first place this year will really be the icing on the cake.
