TOPS OF THE TUNGSTEN SHOTS

Posted by Sid Waddell at 11:20 on 22nd July 2007 in UniBlog

I’d like to thank Shaw Taylor-Jones for blogging in and giving me his all-time darts top ten. I here present TWO lists in reply: one of the best players I’ve seen in 35 years and a second of the greatest entertainers.

GREATEST PLAYERS
1. Phil Taylor
2. Ray van Barneveld
3. Eric Bristow
4. Jocky Wilson
5. John Lowe
6. Alan Evans
7. Leighton Rees
8. Dennis Priestley
9. Bob Anderson
10.Cliff Lazarenko.

I don’t need to give my criteria since I echo it on every Sky commentary!

GREATEST ENTERTAINERS
1. Alan Evans
2. Jocky Wilson
3. Eric Bristow
4. Cliff Lazarenko
5. Byron Wozencraft
6. Dyfri Jones
7. Adrian Lewis
8. Peter Manley
9. Wayne Mardle
10. Kevin Painter

Tough on Eric to be third here, but Jocky and Alan were the tops for skill, tension and laughs. Dyfri looked like a Welsh hippy with Rasputin beard and sloopy eyes and Painter could teach Bruce Willis how to die even harder with his A-Z of tortured expressions.

On the entertainment value i'd definately have Mardle higher than 9th, and Big Cliff would be tops in my book, seeing him play a bit of air guitar in Blackpool will live with me forever!

Hi Sid

Not a bad top 10 however have you seen any of the past greats of the game before the BDO days started in 1973.
Like the NOTW champs etc...

cheers

Hi Sid

One player I would never appear on the lists is Roland Scholten, his so-called performance against Phil Taylor was a disgrace.
I've seen many a pub player losting by heavy scores & keep trying but to see Scholten play like his heart wasn't in it wasn't a good advert for the sport of darts.
Roland Scholten should quit the beautful sport of darts after this.

Scholten should never set foot on a darting stage after Thursday's match against Phil.
Roland wasn't even trying, a disgrace, I have never seen anyone play this so badly for a top 10 player Roland should return to the pub business & never near a professional darts match.

Hi Sid,
You have your top ten players listed, but with your darts knowledge, who are your top ten darts organisers in darts from the 1970's up to today.
Regards Dave

Hi Sid

Just needed to ask if you was at the Swindon V yeovil match the other day because my mate Sarah thought she saw you walking out of the County Ground, well as you know a bet''s in place, & I stand to win a drink if you wasn''t there.
We know you like football, but I don''t think League One is your type of football Sid.
Can''t wait for the Darts to come back on Sky, three months is too long without any darts.
