ACE OF DARTS

Posted by Sid Waddell at 19:00 on 27th December 2007 in UniBlog

Happy greetings of the season to all readers. I had a very quiet Xmas at home in Pudsey with the family and as others took mulled wine and stronger quaffs, I mulled over the overview of the World Championships.

Some lads – young lads at that – are looking like shaking up the barrel for Taylor and Barney. Mardle looked like the real deal in the last match before the break and Kevin Painter was on fire on Wednesday against Mason. Kevin looks smooth and choc-a-bloc with self-confidence. And James Wade and Adie Lewis are still in the mix. But the revelation has been Alex Roy who was at his flamboyant best against Andy Hamilton. There was no posing about the Ace of Herts who played with a rare hard-faced professionalism and won through.

STARS ON A TIGHTROPE

The papers today went on about Barney and his psych, and the mantras he must repeat before big games. His manager Ed de Veer says these cannot help within a match but must be employed well before a contest begins. Plus, Barney is still trying ‘Taylor’ shots on the 60-bed that I think he has not mastered. So look out for a worried-looking Raymond…

Phil has not been at his merciless best…yet. I have talked to him and his camp and they swear the Power will flow now he has two tough games out of the way. Phil told me himself that he is carefully taking psychological and dietary advice and balancing them up. He admits he has gone overboard before with ‘regimes’.

And psychology may hold the key to who wins The Big One on New Year’s Day . The chasing pack sense that Phil and Ray have smidgeons of doubt; so they are snapping like hungry foxes outside the Ally Pally coop.

So look out for cackling and crackling darts and the spitting of feathers.

Hi Sid

What a great Christmas it has been at the Darts, I think the best PDC World Championship ever.
That bloke who posted that blog a couple of months back on here.
He said he thought Taylor & Barney wouldn''t be in the PDC World Final.
I watched the Taylor-Mardle match, and the result isn''t at all surprising, seeing as Phil just wasn''t playing his normal game yesterday or to be frank since the 3-0 start to last year''s World Final.
I don''t know if it''s just me, but he seemed to have slowed down to what he normally is. The real surprise of the tournament has been the qualifier Kirk Shepherd, as he''s playing like a demon, & I hope the final isn''t one match too far for him I would like to see the cocky Part put to the sword & have a new young star in the Premier League in Jan 2008 as PDC World Champion.
A world championship final tomorrow night without Phil Taylor - who would''ve thought it!
Taylor & Barney just like Bristow, Lowe, Wilson & Bob Anderson have had their time at the top & now it''s the new young guns that will be the future over the next 10 years.

Hi Sid

I''m glad to see Kirk "Quick Draw" Shepherd in the final he has played great this week.
I think he would be great in the Premier League of Darts.
I heard you say Vinny Van Der Voort was looking for a new nickname well how about one of the following "The speeding bullet" "Fast shot" "The Dutch speed king" "Lighting strike" or "Red hot"
Also I inclue a couple of new lines you can use on the darts.
"Mardle''s got more faces than the muppets" " & you thought Mr Shifter has problems with the piano, well he''s got real trouble on the board this afternoon or tonight.
Have a great 2008 & happy darting.

Cheers

Hi Sid

What a cracking final, young "quick draw" Kirk did great just not his year, but this will not be the last we hear of him.
With John Part getting one of the wildcards for the Premier League, who will get the other? could it be Kirk? Wayne? or Kevin Painter?
Some how I think if Gary Anderson win''s the BDO world champs I think he will be the next player to cross the codes & what a event to star in!
Happy New Year Sid & to the darting crew of Stu & John (please get Sky to give King Eric more airtime in the com box) let 2008 be the year where the darts move more quicker than a nail into a wall! (you can use that line on the darts if you like)

Hi Sid

Well the January Darting transfer window is open, & I see a number of players crossing the codes this year could any of the following do well in the PDC? Gary Anderson Mark Webster
Scott Waites Tony O''Shea Ted Hankey Darryl Fitton John Walton Martin Atkins Phill Nixon or Niels de Ruiter?
Let''s wait & see!

Hi Sid

Just a quick blog,My wife thinks the reason Phil Taylor hasn''t played to his 110% best,is because his eye''s need glasses, it could be who know''s I do hope will be back to at least 90% best at the Premier League maybe with new power glasses.
